liberal and left wing views, but in my lived experience academics have very broad ranging views from extreme right to extreme left.

Differs per country as well. From the Dutch perspective, most American left-wing liberal democrats are center to center-right.

E.g., I know scientists, not few at all, who think colonialism was great, deny genocide happened, and think ethnonationalism is a good idea.

I know scientists, again not a few, who believe in anarcho-capitalism, who believe in white supremacy, who think GMOs cause cancer, etc.

In fact, I probably know as many with questionable and extreme right wing views in certain areas than I do ones without these views.

INB4: GMOs cause cancer is a bad left-wing view. It's actually both where I'm from, but yes, in the West it correlated with hippie BS.

Yeah I would guess that it's more typical in leftish people. What about homeopathy though? Also popular amongst conservative (christians).
