Conference paper/proceedings stops you scooping too. It's when it's not formally released that's the "problem" and people can scoop you.

Although to be honest, scooping occurs within a journal's peer review process too.

It’s a fascinating lang, both for structural and for sociological reasons. Quite a few of us work on it and still a lot remains to be done!

I hope that Cypriot Greek can withstand assimilation into Modern Greek. I genuinely do worry that most of my/our culture will be destroyed.

Some parts deservedly so (extreme rightwing religious nationalism), others (Lefkaritika, tchiattista, etc.) absolutely not.
