It is clear to me now that you don't (and I apologies for m role in this confusion), but I think this is why a lot seem to misinterpret you.
There's so much to say about undermining your supervisor as well as the PI offloading to their PhDs things that are 100% their job.

Both these issues are really important. I know cases, mostly women PIs, who have been undermined so much by their students. Sickening.
-
And there're cases, we've touched on quite a lot I think, where PIs offload emotional and managerial duties onto their PhDs — 100% wrong.
-
All these cases could be solved or at least mediated by PI and student realising what is and is not their duty/job.
-
I feel very passionate about professional and appropriate behaviour for both sides here as I've seen bad actors: both PIs and students.
-
I have also seen some very inappropriate advice. Don't undermine your PI. Don't offload onto your students what is really your job.

Oh sorry, wasn't arguing either of those. Just responding to idea that expectations shld be clearly communicated. Do think it's 2way street.
-
Definitely, but it IS up to the supervisor to initiate this kind of discussion & many just aren't aware that's part of supervision
