Surely students have rights and supervisors are to be held to agreed upon expectations? I'm not cattle.

If you ignore them and don't reply to your students' emails that's your mistake and not their fault for not reminding you.

I agree it's not the students "fault", but there's a lot of grey area between crap advisor and pretty good but busy/aloof one.

I agree very much. This training should be mandatory for PIs. But in the short run, it's a useful tool to teach students.

I think it should be easier for students to switch PIs and there should be less stigma about quitting/starting over
