Sorry Tim, but do you understand the difference between "not allowed" and "not expected"? Cause we never said the former
When you say bad, elaborate? You mean one that doesn't communicate properly with students?
-
-
Yeh, I guess that's the crux of it (or perhaps more specifically one who keeps failing to provide proper feedback)
-
This is really serious. If you have a real example to hand we can talk privately as I've had to deal with a couple such ones myself 1st and
-
2nd hand. If you're asking for generic advice, it's hard to give as it's very case by case.
-
I'm just one anecdote, but I do appreciate/encourage my students to drive the car as much as they can. I increase feedback when needed.
-
and I hope you communicate this (and what it entails) with your students and don't expect them to figure it out all by themselves
-
I reward them for coming forward with reminders by being responsive and that has worked well so far. I perhaps should be more explicit.
-
Being explicit about expectations is always a good plan
-
Yes, explain what you like and don't like and also that others might not like the same stuff.

Bad as in not reading something for six months, and being reminded/aware of it. Asking for a friend…
-
(I should add that I am being funny, but have worked with people who have failed to do their job for months, which should be unacceptable)
-
Yes, not doing your job is bad.
