Yes, agree. But asking for timely feedback (especially with agreed upon deadlines) isn't, or shouldn't, be trouble.

Maybe go back and read the original tweet. Where nothing was said about agreed-upon timelines

Tim van der Zee Retweeted Hugh Kearns

That's why that part was in parentheses. The OT states after a month; that's a reasonable time for a reminder imo.https://twitter.com/ithinkwellHugh/status/897231527146344457 …

      Tim van der Zee added,

PhD supervisors: If you've been sitting on a student's writing for more than a month you need to email them to tell them what's happening.

The point is: a supervisor should have communicated either with feedback or a timeline by then. If not, they're a bad supervisor

Again, if you disagree with that point, we disagree so fundamentally that there is no point continuing right now

I fully agree with that. I say that students should ask for communication, how does that imply a supervisor shouldn't communicate?

Just to be clear: of course its the supervisor's responsibility to communicate timely and effectively. Its also normal to remind someone

Normal = obligation? Then no. Normal = some students might do it? Then sure. But it's not the best relationship if you have to do it often.

Other PIs in this thread seem to have gotten it from the first few tweets by @Julie_B92. 🤷
