Although to clarify, my take isn't aligned with a lot in these blogs lately — they all think #openscience isn't a movement.

If it has membership, it is a club. A club you may call a movement but still a club. Clubs are typically (or by definition?) exclusive.
-
I'm a feminist cos I believe in equality. I am an "open scientist" cos I believe openness improves science. Not interested in joining a club
-
A movement can be passive like a tidal wave sweeping across the land. I am probably part of that surge but I didn't "join" it.
-
And the way I see it the problem is not that the wave is too white & male but that the entire ocean is. Change that & the wave only grows.
-
You're wrong. That's not what happens in other areas of opennes. Tech has more women than open source.https://www.wired.com/2017/06/diversity-open-source-even-worse-tech-overall/ …
-
Is there evidence it is true for open science or just conjecture? I'd say my network of open science folks is about 50% women.
-
But that's beside the point. Like a famous OS person said, sometimes I'm wrong. You & I don't disagree about the data but about the solution
-
If I'm to be brutally honest, I can't tell what we disagree on cos I sense we disagree on the meanings of words sometimes, which is deep.

It's possible they correlate but the onus is on us to make our movement open. Gatekeeping should be used to stop bad actors, not URMs/ECRs.
-
I know we've had this discussion before and you just actually disagree very strongly with me, so I'm not sure if it's worth rehashing.
-
If I'm honest, sometimes I worry the "audience" seeing all these people complaining about something I said about inclusivity (not here in
-
general) sends a strange message in and off itself.

-
I'll just end by emphasising that
#openscience is explicitly about diversity and inclusivity.https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/889248986984591362 …
