We could call it alt-closed science. Wait that might not be a good idea.

"Core tenets" sounds like a lot like a religion :P - I think it's about changing your science practices. Diversity is issue in its own right

I can't stop you claiming the word movement is exclusive. You put it in scare quotes, so you obviously dislike it. But it's unfounded IMHO.
-
Feminism is a movement. And membership is just about if you believe sexism exists. Maybe you think movement and gatekeeping go hand in hand?
-
If it has membership, it is a club. A club you may call a movement but still a club. Clubs are typically (or by definition?) exclusive.
-
I'm a feminist cos I believe in equality. I am an "open scientist" cos I believe openness improves science. Not interested in joining a club
-
A movement can be passive like a tidal wave sweeping across the land. I am probably part of that surge but I didn't "join" it.
-
And the way I see it the problem is not that the wave is too white & male but that the entire ocean is. Change that & the wave only grows.
-
You're wrong. That's not what happens in other areas of opennes. Tech has more women than open source.https://www.wired.com/2017/06/diversity-open-source-even-worse-tech-overall/ …
-
Is there evidence it is true for open science or just conjecture? I'd say my network of open science folks is about 50% women.

That particular tenet will ultimately be the movement's undoing I'm afraid. Are those umbrella tenets canonized more formally somewhere?
-
glad you’re asking. Lots of people are working on formulating those tenets, e.g.https://scholarlycommons.org/
-
Open means open, yes! Awesome project BTW.
-
thanks! It’s a big team working on this and we formed a dedicated subgroup to work on issues of inclusivity.
