Bropen science

Drive them away from what? Sharing data? Preregistration? Peer review?
-
Yes. My whisper networks are full of stuff like this. Women scared to share code is a common one.
-
My whisper network suggests to me that's not much of a gendered issue. It's a challenge for openness though we need to tackle.

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of ECRs feel this way. Openness means open to diverse people and inclusive to new people. Agreed.
-
I hope you're not trying to play whisper network top trumps tho.

-
Not just because it's a funny phrase, but also because people in private confide in different people. Often women confide in other women.
-
Regardless, your whisper network is saying the same as mine. Open science can be scary and we're/I'm saying we could try and reduce that.

(for the record i wasn't arguing either way, just summarizing what i thought the debate was about)
-
We probably don't disagree here tbh.
-
I think I'm a little more towards the middle, especially when said offending person is relatively irrelevant and has little "standing"
-
But I'm generally with you about the importance of trying to figure out how to retain URMs / ECRs and what behavs are alienating.
-
Again, that's missing the point. Diversity is important for science regardless of whether it's open or closed.
-
Part of
#openscience is it should be open and welcoming.
