If possible, try to find out the rate of completion for PhD students in the lab (e.g. by asking current staff)

This is extremely open to abuse and if you're checking completion that's not useful for eg UK universities where they enforce completion.

Agree that this system is open to abuse & might end up being full of 'revenge' ratings. Alternatives? Or is there a way to prevent this?

I'm a member of loads of whisper networks. Women, and some men, have been solving it for years using them.

This is one option. But whisper networks quite often do not reach undergrad/grad students at different universities/institutions

Also given what I've seen from such systems they will only serve to give women, ethnic minorities and other URMs bad reviews and powerful
