It was a very valid question. I know some folks who probably -would- mind. For me this would be the tell-tale sign of a bad supervisor.

When they have to for any reason. It's not uncommon. I'm just happy you're not in those shoes and that I misunderstood what was going on!

I also know quite a few who are unbelievably rude to their supervisor... It really goes all ways.

I've been in labs where phd students did such bad stuff to their supervisor that if I was their supervisor I'd have kicked them out.

And of course I know cases where such badly behaved ones have indeed been removed.
