What's the context? Are you in a PhD now and looking to guide it or are you wanting to start one on a particular topic?

it's not about *whether* to ask, but *how to* ask :D :D :D without getting dismissed quickly
-
Just say "I was invited to present at blah blah" then they will say something then you will say something. It's a super easy one.
-
They will be very pleased with you. I can't image a situation where you being invited is in any way bad.
-
Sorry if this is too personal or private but why do you feel like you might be dismissed. This is a bad sign. Do they dismiss you often?
-
This (being invited) is the kind of shit PIs celebrate. It's excellent. You should even put it on your CV.
-
oh well, their postdoc was like: "Yeah, you should present your project! we have free slots in some months", now I need to ask 4 permission
