I dunno. I mean I am happy if others are happy to a great extent. But I do wish you'd change to something more open. 
Programming in Matlab is open, as long as one publishes code. The fact that the underlying software is not open is common to most of science
There is value in using proprietary tech b/c companies add value. There are not enough volunteer hours to make all the tools for free.
The failure of Linux to capture desktop market is good evidence of this. Surely you remember the promises & enthusiasm of the 90's
At the end of the day, I'm just trying to do good science and that includes a mix of proprietary & volunteer tools
