It sounds like the population would need to be much more homogeneous for it to be easy/"safe" to share all opinions. Not sure we want that

Agree that more level headed-tolerance would be good, & is totally plausible for scientific opinions. Political ones, I'm less optimistic.

And the fear of any damage to ones reputation that comes from trying to express unpopular opinions (in 140 char!) is hard to overcome

Political ones made my bro have to hire human rights lawyers. So yeah, not exactly safe/cheap to express one's views in every country.
