OK, so Interlaken's lakes water is incredibly fake-looking gorgeous blue.
What minerals are these? Why is it so blue?!

Imho the higher up in the mountains, the more blue rivers and lakes look (unless they carry mud). Something to do with optics.

I've looked at lakes higher up than here in Mammoth, CA, and they were nowhere near as blue...

I *think* the altitude thing is a variable but solutes and suspended particles also affect hue. Mountain ice melt + insoluble rock ~ bluuuue
