'where are you from?' Do you mean, where I was born, where my phd is from, or where I work now? Surprisingly, it's usually the 2nd 1they ask

Interesting. Mine is usually where I was born & then follow up questions to check I really was born there and /or ethnically from there.

Jesus, in what kind of world is that even relevant... In my case they're mostly trying to figure out the accent so UK PhD gives them peace.
