Seems like others agree w us regarding potential downsides of open review. #openscience

I'm not sure if more paranoia in science is the way to go though. Double-blind will scare peer reviewers even more: what if it's some1 big?
-
This is literally the opposite of what URMs are afraid of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Also I can find the ref if you want, but there was a study that found that bigshot publications had higher success rates when blinded
-
I'm not sure "more paranoia" is an apt description of blind reviews?
-
Surely it's very scary for ECRs if they are openly new and naive (ie their name is obviously of an unknown)?
-
Also I don't feel these pressures or stresses myself because of my personality in this specific thing, so it's good to listen to others.
-
But women or people with "foreign" names could easily be treated worse because of open review, you can imagine that right?

When an author named Geoff portrays as a smiling woman, it's hard not to have some bias.

-
Woah — good catch. I wonder if
@siminevazire knows they misnamed her! -
Thanks to your focus on non-bias cultivating habits really. I'm mostly living in Oblivion.

How is this supposed to work if we're posting papers to pre-publication archive sites? How do we forget what we learned at conferences?
-
It's definitely not always possible to stay blind, but for me it's pretty rare to be 100% sure who authors are, and I often have no clue.
-
My Q is if posting of pre-pubs conflicts with goal of having blind reviewers. If you're reviewing, likely to have seen/read paper on arxiv
-
Yes, they're definitely in conflict. For now blinding still works often, so worth doing imo. But that will change if preprints become common
