you can do this using travisCI. Put the commands in your .travis.yml, then on travis turn on the repo + settins > cron > daily
-
Excellent, thanks. Still one issue that I need to sort out: credentials to access the data online. Ok to put on travis?
-
The repo is also private, so might need to pay for travis, won't I?
-
You can still do my solution, cron job on local machine without travis.
-
Thank you
@o_guest and@blahah404 for you suggestions. -
Automating is always the way. Good luck!
-
FYI - the table of senior academics supporting the campaign is not updated automatically every hour using a cron job on a server.

How come?

I could probably set that up on a server yes. Will see what's easiest and safest (re credentials): cron or travis.
-
You need to generate a github API token. Since it's a private repo, you can store the token in the script.
-
If you decide to open the repo later, just revoke the token and make a new one, then you can store it as an encrypted env var on travis
-
btw any reason to have it as a private repo? if it's due to credentials in the code, I can walk you through securing them + purging from git
-
Currently, we have some pre-anonymised data. Might be better to have that in another private repo. Will see what's better.
-
But thank you v much for your offer. I'll ask you for help if I get stuck.
-
No worries, ping me anytime if I can help.
-
And thanks to you all for making this - important to speak out about it
