heroine does have unfortunate alternative meanings. But hard to know how people identifying differently than me interpret gender neutrality
You can 100% be agender or/and androgynous or even a cis man and still like femme stuff. But sadly, you get chastised for it. Even women do.

Thanks Olivia! Sorry to push this - would you recommend "heros and heroines" then? That feels super weird to me. Or just avoid in general?
-
I don't see why it's needed?
-
I feel like I've wanted to say something like "you are all heros of <insert movement here>" in an inspirational way
-
Why go for a noun that has inherent rendering? Why not something like: "leaders" "activists" "movers and shakers" "vanguard" etc?

role model(s)? :)
-
Totally - there are so many words that we can use to recognise the *incredible* people who inspire us :)
-
I have a lot of issues with the concept of role models (not the phrase itself) as I struggle to empathise with people who have them.
-
I should work on understanding that people need role models and respect that they don't like metaphorically "killing" them.
