I respect that. I think your mum might not be as bad. My mum cried when I got my PhD because she was embarrassed that it's in Psychology.

PoC mums can be tough — years of abuse and war in her case made her abusive. She could have chosen a different way though obviously.

I know people in abusive relationships who excuse behaviours or are even blind to them. As a survivor, I can relate and I think it's sadly

very human to love somebody despite the hurt they cause. Sometimes though as the police and the NHS informed me, you have to cut them out.

Even just realising you've been abused is a big deal and IMHO a step towards not becoming an abuser yourself.
