A total take down of LaTeX, according to authors it's destroying arXiv. Can't really disagree even tho I love LaTeX.https://twitter.com/LorenaABarba/status/878910194738188289 …

To clarify I'm not, and the article is not against latex per se. Just against using it to compile pdfs as a default. HTML might be better as
-
a default as
@blahah404 and others recommend.

We will be going through the article and making adjustments/edits based on feedback. Maybe this can be less inflammatory.
-
Yes. Latex is great. Just not always ideal to compile to pdf.

Most publishers re-typeset manuscripts even if the author(s) sent over a perfectly typeset article.
-
Just can see what difference that makes, exactly. I don't have a secretary so I type(set) my documents. Every. Body. Does.
-
Happy to have a discussion or debate. Don't find it helpful or necessary to be rude. Thanks for your comments anyways.
-
You've baffled me. Who does not typeset their documents?
-
It is likely just confusion over what we mean by typeset. A word user typesets their document in a way that is ready for review but not pub.
-
I think this is a false distinction. These are all markup languages. Nothing requires perpetuating this dichotomy. Let 1000 flowers bloom:)
-
Sure. We are not advocating against LaTeX. Our aim is to take the best of each the styles to create something better.
