Heard about a related study at a conference last year: https://www.asm.org/index.php/journal-press-releases/94697-first-study-to-link-antibiotic-resistance-with-exposure-to-the-disinfectant-chlorhexidine …

That's not alcohol...
-
I'm talking about hand sanitisers which are made from alcohol. I don't doubt antibiotics cause huge problems with resistance. I'm personally
-
often affected by infections with resistant bacteria.
-
You're right, I don't think alcohol causes, if at all, resistance the way antibacterials and antimicrobials do.
-
She clarified that apparently — this is 100% news to me so much a USA thing (??) — there are soaps and gels that have antibiotics that are
-
sold over the counter!

-
Not sure if this was what she was referring to?https://www.fda.gov/newsevents/newsroom/pressannouncements/ucm517478.htm …

I vaguely remember the US ruled against marketing soap like that. It's soap & that's what it's been doing since 1894 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbolic_soap …
-
I don't think carbolic acid causes bacteria to be resistant though.
-
I read it as it gives a minority of germs more space to play. Not my specialist subject, though!
-
I don't think it works that way. She's explained she means sanitisers that contain antibiotics.

Well that .01% is probably set to survive in a pool of hydrochloric acid by a volcanic guyser, so I think I'll let it off the hook
