A few details I saw/see - (1) belated focus on CoC; (2) a few notoriously problematic tech leaders; (3) insistence on "meritocracy"...

over community. I think Python community has been overall one of the largest & most progressive/positive on this front; PyCon stats++.

note FOSS overall is dominated by Silly Valley set who generally see issues of community and diversity as irrelevant.

for years "online" science (Twitter/blogopshere) has had a few loud & bad actors. I don't see them any more - blocked from my blog/twitter.
