[Tweet storm ahead]
#OpenScience (OS) is not a club. You cannot be admitted to or expelled from it. 1/14https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/876905959830040576 …

instead we should call him out.
-
And yes, there's tons of examples of elitism. Like you say. Hence why URMs need to be made to feel welcome and not like we're all like K.
-
I don't want to debate if it's a movement or a community or not because it's beside the main point: K uses OA to legitimise is racist ideas.
-
And people have used it to argue against climate change, vaccines & whatnot. It's inherent to the concept of open data that this happens...
-
The key thing is that open data allows anyone to use it for whatever purpose they want, wrong ideas can & must be challenged using open data
-
I'm not 100% sure the data was legit open the first time, stolen, and now its only open on demand from racist author.

As I said just now in another tweet this is a feature of OS. I think the only weapon against abuses of open data is more open data.
-
Well. You can also criticize the analysis. Where is it flawed? Where did it go wrong. If the data is open this should be easier.
-
Exactly - the data in this case is deliberately skewed, and the plot by K is an exceptionally racist interpretation of the data.
-
If all we do is add more data, we're never challenging the problem of people (a) abusing data to promote racism and (b) making OA look bad
-
I didn't say "add more data". I said challenge them with open data (ideally the same data they use). That's the whole point of open science.
-
The data is often unethically sourced.
-
Doesn't this invalidate the notion that he is using open science in the first place?
-
Absolutely not. He is using it explicitly as a shield. Check out his work.

s, undermining slightly the point. The reason it needs to be addressed = Kierkegaard claims to be in our movement.
