The term community is being used in so many different ways that it is confusing the dialogue, imo.

There are various kinds of community, on at least one spectrum, which have different characteristics.

Claiming X is part of such an umbrella term doesn't make it inherent all characteristics of it or related terms.

So is open science a community in a very informal sense of the word? Sure!

Is it even remotely similar to a highly structured and organized community with shared norms, values, goals, and methods? No.

So you don't get to claim shared responsibility or hint at collective punishment. It's not that kind of community.

I am as much responsible for other open science advocates as other registered reports advocates. Barely, if at all.
