Something about connecting judgements of scientific papers with connotations from a dating app makes me DEEPLY uncomfortablehttps://twitter.com/dalmeets/status/875478152197402624 …

Dear everyone tweeting about how great this is, I will @ you. Please do not tweet about how great "Tinder but for science" is. ITS NOT

if they hadn't called it tinder for science it might have had a chance... but it's hard to tell because I won't look at it

It's still a terrible idea. You literally can't judge a book by its cover. People will just swipe based on uni rankings etc. No. Just no.

Well yeah, but then at least your bad idea isn't also gross

It's certainly less gross. But it's still upholding status quo. Probably would enforce sexism.

ok so I had to read the article to see what you're all talking about - looks like they will use it to measure what affects ppls ratings

So long as they actually use it to measure bias and not think they are measuring information.

if they experimented with removing or obscuring metadata for some users it could be interesting - could see effect of name, institution

We already know the effect of institution, look at grant funding etc. But good luck to them. Not a huge fan of rhetorical undercurrent.

if they would change the terrible name I feel like having a platform to measure + experiment with ways to address bias could be productive

not trying to say it's up in the air whether these issues exist - we know they do
