Certainly bad rep and I'm all for open science. 100% committed, I have tons of open code, a preprint (and will continue with more), etc.

I've tried (not always succeeded) to focus on gen'l/struct'l issues, not specific people; be positive about small steps; do, not just preach

we are actively trying to figure out how to offer training opps in data science and open science to URM undergrads esp.

That's great but sometimes you need to tell individuals they aren't welcome if they're making entire groups of URMs feel unsafe & unwelcome

Who has made entire groups feel unsafe/unwelcome? How and when did they do it?

Dude we've just had a whole discussion about this. Tbh I'm too tired to trawl up examples. This constant doubt + disbeleif is tiring.

my interp (and I've heard it a fair bit over the years): open science comm quite unwelcoming in many ways. This is a recent example.

I agree, and that's a tendency that I worry might always be a risk when part of the reason for a movement is to change prior bad behavior.
