I think they just don't realize how horrible it is because they are almost always monolingual

I don't think the racism and abuse I have received over the years is because people want to be me, or whatever jealous means.

It's rooted in a deep-seated contempt of people from "the colonies" (or whatever) and it's obviously because they see me as lesser.

Also I'm not bilingual because of any explicit effort. I just was brought up that way. Much respect to those who learned at school.

Notwithstanding tho, I made a huge effort to change my accent from when I moved to UK to avoid abuse and comments.

Similar stories are easy to find, my dad also changed his accent to avoid classism within UK, Sandi Toksvig changed to avoid bullying, etc.

Yeah, as an immigrant I wouldn't set up a poll on what people think about my accent.. people tell me without asking and I find it upsetting
