I really need to stop jumping around and find my 'thing'. It upsets me that I have no consistent thing that I do/know about.

YMMV but most people who enter industry after PhD are paid the same as or less as MSc graduates (because skills are usually not valued).

Also having an appropriate PhD mentor is just as much a huge problem you need to solve as is finding the right theme/topic.
