Are you planning on an MSc?

-
Maybe? Maybe straight to PhD. Some possible jobs ops too. Not sure on my plan yet really.
-
I'd advise against straight to PhD given what you have expressed in this thread. But I'm not you & I'm obv not 100% sure of how you feel.
-
I certainly can focus on something for an extended period. I'm not sure what it is though! But yeah, I don't really know.

topic should be what you want to do roughly for your career. No point really doing a PhD if you want to industry, unless industry-backed.
-
YMMV but most people who enter industry after PhD are paid the same as or less as MSc graduates (because skills are usually not valued).
-
Also having an appropriate PhD mentor is just as much a huge problem you need to solve as is finding the right theme/topic.
