This brings me back to using "Ivory tower" to mean academic life. I disagree with this phrase. I think it's not representative of our work.

I think perhaps other scientists aren't too. I am not going to speak for everybody. But to me ivory tower is anti-intellectualism.

The phrase is typical of anti-expert agenda of the right wing. Especially seen during brexit propaganda, climate denial, etc.

That's fair, but also worth considering the venue of the talk and the target audience, was presented at a research conference to academics
