This brings me back to using "Ivory tower" to mean academic life. I disagree with this phrase. I think it's not representative of our work.

I think perhaps other scientists aren't too. I am not going to speak for everybody. But to me ivory tower is anti-intellectualism.

The phrase is typical of anti-expert agenda of the right wing. Especially seen during brexit propaganda, climate denial, etc.
