I'm not sure if there's stuff like this here while still a student. You get a doctorial panel that kind of overlooks your work progress
I'd be weary of doing it just like that with a more senior academic, but up to you!

opinions will differ i guess. i personally think one can learn a lot from people who are just a bit ahead

That's why I was recommending permanent staff.

yeah... they have more influence as well. although not to have a ref from your recent employer still looks bad (was disastrous for me)
