Yeah, I think it depends on a researchers level of social power; Cuddy's is higher than most

This kind of behaviour from powerful people tars people who really are being bullied in sci (in general, nothing to do w replication etc).
-
Agreed! I think we've got to be careful - "think about minorities" has a lot of emotional power, and for a good reason. But>
-
>that emotional power itself does not itself guarantee more power for the ppl who would need it; and can be abused by those in power
-
Cannot help but be suspicious of ppl in power that keep bringing up interests of ppl down the power hierarchy to support their own point
-
That's a worrying state of affairs. Esp since no discussion of URMs implies pulling up the ladder by powerful people, a common tactic.
-
Lots of strange behaviours and they all seem to affect the powerless and those without a platform... Calling out this stuff is key.

Yes, cf. "methodological terrorism". I half-expect accusations of open-science pogroms next.

Have you listened to Episode 6 of
@blackgoatpod? Got me extremely worried about an Open Science vs. The Rest dividehttps://twitter.com/blackgoatpod/status/854793115760066561 … -
The bad news is that the divide is real, and it's getting ugly. The good news is that science progresses one retirement at the time.
-
this is SO silly and unnecessary and so completely beside the point of open science it drives me up the wall
-
My advice: divide is easier to deal w/ if you just ignore it. While a small contingent oppose openness, most sci's are either +ve or neutral
-
And while certain powerful ppl may attempt to slow reform, we're busy talking to journals, funders, researchers. Train ain't stopping.

What worries me aren't some big shots lashing out, but a large group of mid-/early-career folks feeling alienated. Not sure if that is the >
