    Are any tweeps good at parallelising w/ #multiprocessing #Python? I'm doing something 100% wrong cos it's slower. 😅😔https://github.com/oliviaguest/pairwise_distance/blob/master/pairwise_distance.py …

OK reload. Bear in mind the least idea is not finished and that I've made a mess. Perhaps look at previous commit to head actually. Sorry! 😅

I've been recommended a couple things by @seaandsailor in another thread which I'll get round to ASAP tomorrow.

Just realized you can probably use itertools.product to get all the combinations, slice the combination matrix, and do as I suggested!

Thanks! 😊 I think you might be (partially) right but still slower than others — see here:https://twitter.com/o_guest/status/849674474463035392 …

I tried 32 because I have 32 cores, does that make sense and YES it is a lot faster but not faster than the other two.. hmmm...

you did not choose how many workers you want for the pool! If I'm not mistaken it defaults to one, so it will be slower than single proc

don't know, but as an aside have you checked out joblib? uses multiprocessing but many niceties. such as sharing np arrays across workers

I need a chunk of time to set aside as I don't even know multiprocessing... it's on my list though! ☺️

it's actually a high level wrapper to make it easier, but agree its a good idea to get to know multiprocessing first. learn the hard way!
