Why do we still need to submit horrible looking manuscripts (double spacing, figs separately) to journals when we build them in LaTeX?

cause LaTeX also, folks, is not a beautiful typesetting format. Mathematicians, believe it or not, do not make good designers.

OK... I was thinking of solution for now. If you can convince them to accept HTML, why not Markdown? But either way — not a solution for me.

huh? markdown is fab for writing docs. Pandoc converts .md to .pdf (via pdflatex) or to .docx to satisfy publishers https://kieranhealy.org/blog/archives/2014/01/23/plain-text/ …
