Define pure maths in quotes. Both. Frequentists: probability is frequency — Bayesians: probability is degree of belief.

You probably [all puns intended] wanna Google stuff because tonight is party night for this scientist. http://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/22/bayesian-and-frequentist-reasoning-in-plain-english …

if they're both right they're not 'going down the wrong path" like lysenkoism or geocentrism then?
-
`
@hierodula What does right mean? A Bayesian would say a frequentist is less right in their interpretation and vice versa. -
would they say that because the other has a political ideology blinding them to their privilege though?
-
oh God this made me laugh in context

Homework: Google how Fisher [who was neither a Bayes nor a Freq, but a Likelihoodist] claimed that smoking doesn't cause cancer.

This is political and yes maths. Enjoy the history lesson. The men you want to read about is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Fisher …
-
Think about why nobody today is a Likelihoodist. Have fun!
