Using GIS in Python (altho interested in JS for incl on a site) if anybody has useful stuff for newbies — pls send links & /or RT!

thanks! I haven't graphed anything at all yet! I've only opened shape files in qgis!

Q's python interface is pretty useful too, but the API is poorly documented, unfortunately.

I keep getting errors on that front about it not loading python integration etc — regardless I doubt I need it, right?

Not for plotting GIS data, no. But does contain some nice processing elements (like calculating area of polygons on the geoid).

ah I see, what do you suggest in general basemap? Shapely? Geopandas?

I tend to use basemap & shapely. I spent 3 days trying to plot a polygon properly last week. Ended up using geopandas and descartes

The polygon had holes, which nothing else plotted as transparent. The UK got filled in! (lower left here: https://twitter.com/jonxhill/status/841399096887906306 …)
