I have a blog post planned with the working title "I use %pylab - bite me!".
it is a good argument but there's a cost-benefit trade off. Not learning to code imposes even less cognitive load.

Not coding costs nothing but achieves nothing. For beginners matlab has more bang per (cognitive) buck.
