Does anybody know how Matlab became so big in science? What's the story? It's expensive, inflexible & not pedagogical. How did this happen?

true, but it's built into the language rather than a separate package so it's slightly faster to code and the code is more readable

figures are also way easier, and matlab has better documentation than packages like matplotlib

I think the documentation is the only reason I'd switch from python. Matplotlib docs are terrrrrrible

sometimes it's more intuitive; depends on what you're used to. I imagine some people prefer something that looks more math-y
