Matlab is fine, parts of it I really like. At times I really wanted object oriented aspects (like python).

technically if I wanted to really troll you you can write objects in a functional language. I wrote objects in lisp.

oh, I mean, if a library on that problem-space already exists for you. (eg, neuroimaging lib). Mostly for the time-savings.

I think I understand. Most sci projects I work on use libraries but don't develop them.
