I don't know - must be very difficult. They could sell the IDE and toolboxes, but keep language and core functions free?...

I definitely think a 'turnkey' multiplatform IDE with good library management could be commercial in an open source world...

I can also imagine a big market for cloud-based computation. I think the license fees will have to come down a lot, though.
