Ok so that's sealed the deal. I'm writing my next blog post on what's wrong with Matlab. Send in ideas or hatemail quick.
if you don't think so, then do you at least hope they change their model of licensing?

...I don't think it's dying. Matlab changed to site licenses (instead of headcount), so that's helped too
-
fair enough, so you don't think other free languages will overtake?
-
will increase their share as incorporate equiv function, but don't see Matlab being phased out anytime soon
-
you don't think free & open source equivalents will kill it off like with many similar cases? What's diff?

-
what about the opposite... lots of popular software have FOSS equivalents but persist, e.g., MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop
-
i thought those were exceptions to the rule because users aren't also devs
-
so you think Matlab had staying power because it's got current monopoly?
-
also advantages because of company overseeing development (vs groups of volunteers), differences in how language operates
