Legacy code is the worst. "Legacy" here meaning "code not written by yourself in the last 6 weeks".
also clear code is a luxury afforded to those who don't care as much about time/space complexity.

if a list comprehension is faster it might be diff between 2 weeks vs 10 weeks of runtime for some of my projects.

I guess this is also a factor. Most of the computations I run don't take nearly as long.

I have redone the whole results of a model and figures in a paper in an hour with probably only that much time to go.
