These two men were enormously rich and successful even before the allegations were madehttps://twitter.com/AllieBeauregard/status/836076903412944896 …

Casey Affleck won Best Actor. Donald Trump is president. Tell me again how sexual assault charges can "ruin" a man's career. 😒

you can still be sued, your career ruined after you are successful? There are examples of this.

Sure, but it's harder. Celebrities can hire better lawyers and tend to be more easily forgiven due to a less personal bond

My main angle is that false allegations are still totally capable of ruining a career and people who make them should be prosecuted

sure but that's like saying people who bring up false racism allegations should be prosecuted... it's not a common thing!

there's little motive to falsely accuse somebody of raping you... it's admitting something extremely taboo and shameful: rare

if anything we should empower and encourage survivors & victims to speak up not scare them with false rape allegations stories

I think it's possible to empower people to speak up whilst also not making it too easy to witch-hunt.

Just by continuing to support survivors and chip away at the stigma whilst also having fairly strong sentences for PROVEN lies

I don't think somebody should go to prison just if the defendant is found not guilty, it should have to be a definite falsehood

there's no definite — human memory = not precise, expert witnesses shown later to be wrong, eye-witness accounts = problematic

I agree entirely, and I believe our sentencing system should be based around rehabilitation and protection, not punishment
