My main angle is that false allegations are still totally capable of ruining a career and people who make them should be prosecuted

sure but that's like saying people who bring up false racism allegations should be prosecuted... it's not a common thing!

I can recall about half a dozen cases of hate crime hoaxes in the international news in the past six months- less common =/= rare

They still happen often enough for it to be an issue, imo. We can address both problems without solely focussing on one
