I never thought I'd say this as a white-passing WoC to a white person: "I'm not explaining race to you"; cos she didn't accept I'm brown. 
I wonder if it's because Mexicans understand race, culture, and ethnicity more due to not being at the pinnacle of whiteness?

you don't think whiter=better everywhere? I think it's true here in UK. In Cyprus at school I was praised for being palest.

my point was more that they didn't exclude me from being Cypriot as much as I'm excluded from being British. (I'm both.)
