Well, a uni is a company and they will move towards even more company-ness as time goes on.

Also p much nobody gets fired for being bigoted. Unlike say a bank which would cos they prefer not being sued.

Eg, a man has had a few complaints about his sexism and nothing had been done by boss except kind of laugh.

No concept of: this is bad for our image or we might get sued. PIs are all powerful. No meaningful line manager.

Also most people are not as liberal or as nice as you might imagine. Everything = politics, power, who you know.

And that doesn't mean I don't love my job. I really do. But it's got issues & certain things really need reform.

One of biggest shocks PhDs have to deal with is how nasty, corrupt, sci is. Old boys' networks, cliques, etc.

A lot of great work is ignored. A lot of great people go unthanked. P-hacking is real. Life is not fair.
