      We'd (or least I'd) be more likely to be EPSRC or ESRC. Although I have always been funded through US grants.

          yeah you can jump between them. Most people only know about TT, but the other routes do exist & have pros/cons

          but, I can say for certain that people (e.g. me!) turn down TT/perm posts to pursue the top route on pro/con balance

          anyway, depends on uni, but at UCL, you can be 'research associate' at prof level (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/docs/proms/research.php …)

          main dif is u pay own salary from fships. Less job security than lecturer, but far less admin/teaching. Swings/rounbts
