Arguably, git is not a perfect solution for a "rich document editing" workflow. Haven't found one yet.

for code not using any VCS violates good scientific practice, IMHO. But important to pick battles wisely

thanks the project itself is going to be a pub not a package so it's at least going to be "safer".
